The western black-legged tick (Ixodes pacificus) enjoys a healthy presence throughout California, but it has also been found in other western states along the coast and inland, as well as in Canada.

The western black-legged tick can transmit Lyme disease and anaplasmosis. These are also zoonotic diseases, which means they can infect people as well as pets.
