Brown Dog Tick
Just your average, everyday health threat
Chances are you’ve shared space with the brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus) and didn’t even know it. That’s because this tick is found throughout the United States and Canada, and it is also likely to live indoors—kennels, your home, etc.
Dogs are the brown dog tick’s host of choice, and this tick is a known carrier of hepatozoonosis, canine ehrlichiosis and babesiosis. Ehrlichiosis and babesiosis are also zoonotic diseases, which means they can infect people as well as pets.
